Description:

Here is a collection of 43 stencil designs, reprinted from a rare French portfolio. Published in the late 1890s at the height of Art Nouveau's popularity, these authentic period designs include flower and leaf motifs developed as individual blossoms, garlands and wreaths, all over textile and wallpaper patterns, borders, corners and frames.
In this collection, famed turn-of-the-century artist M. P. Verneuil used many different flowers, plants and trees as subjects and sources of inspiration, among them wild hyacinth, periwinkle, poppy, chestnut, lily of the valley, snowdrop, cyclamen, holly, oak, anemone, lily, jonquil and columbine. These handsome floral and foliate images reflect Art Nouveau experimentation with the plastic and decorative qualities of natural forms as well as the subtle coloration characteristic of the style.
